St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP) helps people struggling with poverty and hardships.

Volunteers through 43 Catholic Churches including our parishes help people connect with financial assistance. The St. Brigid/St. James ministry is responsible for responding to financial requests for help from the needy in our neighborhood. Volunteers return phone messages left on the SVDP helpline on a rotating schedule.

Both St. Brigid and St. James parishioners generously donate to St. Vincent de Paul each year.  Our contributions are communicated monthly in our bulletin and on our website at Collections Reports (sbsjlou.org)

St. Brigid St. James – Conference of The St. Vincent de Paul Society Call Taker Volunteer

The purpose of our conference is to provide assistance in the form of monetary aid for utilities, rent and mortgage payments. Our main focus is to provide aid to clients in the 40204 & 40205 zip codes of Louisville, KY. However, we may extend a lesser amount of aid to other areas of Louisville through other outreach ministries.

The potential client will contact St. Brigid SVDP through the main St. Brigid phone number of (502) 584-5565. These calls will be retrieved by the SVDP call taker volunteer. The SVDP call taker contacts the potential client. There is a procedure to follow that determines how much assistance and in what form.

The call taker rotation is to cover one full week every six weeks. The estimated time for the week of retrieving calls is 6-8 hours total during the daytime mostly. For more information and a more detailed explanation, please contact Jack Meredith (502) 693-2818.

Thank you for your consideration of this important ministry.
